Can you cruise while pregnant or with a baby in 2026?
Usually yes, if the dates fit. Use this guide to check the pregnancy cutoff, baby minimum age, and line-specific exceptions before your family gets attached to a sailing.
Rule of thumb: pregnancy usually needs to stay before week 24; babies are usually 6 or 12 months; MSC requires 24 months on 11+ night sailings; Oceania is adult-only for new 2026 bookings.
quick answer
The rule check families need before they book.
Start here, then use the line-by-line table for the exact source and next step.
Pregnancy usually stops before week 24
Most brands block boarding once a guest will enter week 24 during the voyage. Royal Caribbean and Azamara use more-than-23-week wording.
Baby age depends on the itinerary
Six months is common on shorter cruises. Long, remote, trans-ocean, or multi-sea-day sailings often require 12 months or more.
Source confidence belongs in the answer
Each row shows whether the source is an official page, contract, PDF, or a public source gap that needs direct confirmation.
If the answer is "maybe," turn it into a safer shortlist.
This guide helps a family avoid a bad deposit. NestCruise helps when you want the next step: checking the rule against the actual sailing date, then comparing lines, cabins, and itineraries that still fit.
The advisor check is complimentary. If the policy blocks your first sailing, we point you to better dates or a better line instead of forcing the original plan.
changed or easily missed
Four cruise rules families miss before deposit.
These are the rules most likely to make older posts, forum answers, and copied tables wrong.
MSC
11+ night sailings now require every passenger to be at least 24 months old.
Oceania
New reservations are 18+ beginning January 7, 2026, with limited existing-booking honoring.
Viking and Virgin
Both are adult-only, so they are not family-cruise options with infants or children.
Week 24
A doctor's note helps with documentation, but it usually cannot override the cutoff.
Bring these six details to the policy check.
The rule is simple only after the dates are known. A baby who qualifies on a 5-night Caribbean cruise may not qualify on a repositioning cruise with consecutive sea days.
- 1
Expected due date and pregnancy week on embarkation and final cruise day.
- 2
Infant birth date and age on embarkation day.
- 3
Cruise line, ship, sail date, and number of nights.
- 4
Whether the itinerary has trans-ocean routing, remote ports, or three or more sea days in a row.
- 5
Any medical documentation the line asks for before final payment or boarding.
- 6
A backup line or sailing week in case the first option fails the rule.
Pregnancy and infant cruise rules for every line in the audit.

Pregnancy and baby cruise FAQ.
Can you go on a cruise while pregnant in 2026?
Usually yes, if the cruise ends before the line's pregnancy cutoff and the pregnancy is not high-risk. Most lines use a version of the 24-week rule, but the exact wording differs by brand.
How many weeks pregnant can you be on a cruise?
The common answer is before week 24. Some lines say you must not enter the 24th week at any time, some say not more than 23 weeks, and others calculate by the last cruise day.
Can you cruise at or after 24 weeks pregnant with a doctor's note?
Do not count on it. Official policies from lines such as Disney and Carnival make clear that a medical letter does not override the cutoff.
How old does a baby have to be to go on a cruise?
For many cruise lines, babies must be at least 6 months old on embarkation day. Longer, remote, trans-ocean, or multi-sea-day sailings often require 12 months.
Can newborns go on cruises?
Usually no. Most major ocean cruise lines require at least 6 months, and several long itineraries require 12 months or more.
Can you take a 6 month old on a cruise?
Often yes on shorter mainstream sailings, but not always. Check whether the itinerary has trans-ocean routing, remote ports, or three or more consecutive sea days.
Which cruise lines are adult-only?
Viking and Virgin Voyages are adult-only. Oceania also moved to an 18+ policy for new reservations beginning January 7, 2026, with limited honoring of existing under-18 bookings.
What changed for MSC infant rules?
MSC's current U.S. booking terms say cruises of 11 nights or more require every passenger to be at least 2 years old at embarkation. Older summaries that say 12 months for long MSC sailings are stale.
Why does American Cruise Lines show as unconfirmed?
We found American Cruise Lines' public FAQ and terms, but not a public official pregnancy or infant age policy. That row stays visible with a caution label so families know to confirm before booking.
