How to turn 5 days of PTO into a 9-day solo cruise.

The math of the American vacation. A Saturday departure to a Sunday arrival requires exactly 5 days out of office. Bridge it with a holiday, and you're down to 4. Here are the 2026/2027 windows to book now.

Settle In. Sail Beyond.

The Weekend Bridge Math

A standard 7-night cruise is highly optimized for working professionals. By utilizing bookend weekends, you turn 5 days of PTO into 9 consecutive days of vacation. When you overlay this bridge with a federal holiday, the cost drops to just 4 days of PTO.

According to the U.S. Travel Association, over 50% of working professionals do not use all of their annual leave. For solo travelers, the barrier is often planning friction. A cruise resolves this by consolidating transport, lodging, and dining into a single transaction, maximizing actual rest time.

Why professionals are booking earlier

The cruise demographic is shifting rapidly. According to CLIA’s 2025 State of the Industry report, 36% of all cruise passengers are under the age of 40 (comprising 14% Gen Z and 22% Millennials). Furthermore, 83% of Millennials who have cruised plan to do so again.

This cohort rejuvenation means that holiday-bridge dates are highly sought after by younger, employed travelers. While a ship might have 1,000 double cabins, it typically only features 10 to 80 dedicated single occupancy cabins. As a result, solo staterooms on high-value holiday bridges typically sell out 9 to 12 months before departure.
